Our second round opponent was IFK Nykoping who had won their first game 3-1 this morning.
We took control very early but could not finish. We knocked the heck out of top cross bar and the left side post. I think we had about 10 shots on goal before we finally got our fist goal in at about the 15 minute mark as Sara snuck one past the goal. Paige followed up with a slick rebound shot to give us a 2-0 lead. The other Nykoping did not give up though. We had to clear a ball that gave them a corner. We were able to clear the corner shot but right to an on coming mid fielder who nailed a 18 yard shot. The score was 2-1 at the half and it was still up for grabs.
The first 10 minutes of the second half was pretty much a stale mate until Tayler and AD ran our new corner play again. This time Tayler kept the ball dribbled in and hit a slicing shot to give us a 3-1 lead. This really took them out of the game. We played alot of possesion soccer the rest of the half that allowed us to open up the game. We were able to get 4 more goals in the last 10 minutes to finish the game 7-1. These scores came even after I put restrictions on the girls such as having to string 10 passes together or shooting outside the 18. It was a great finish.
The girls and parents are also doing their part to strengthen foreign relations. Even though we had a not so kind welcome as well as us taking to teams on the score board we are starting to get a small gathering of people coming to watch our games. The girls have been trading away practice jerseys and anything lightning to everyone and now we have teams showing up to watch us wearing our clothing. Its kind of catching us off guard having cheering sections that are not parents.
We have teams jsut waiting on us when we get back to the barracks wanting to trade and the girls are livin large trading and signing jerseys. What an experience as everyone comes to watch the Americans.
Girls are playing their hearts out, you would be proud.
By the way I had a 10 scoop ice cream bet with AD and TW that I wouldnt yell at todays game. Ok not a smart bet on my part.
A tough day tomorrow we play at 8 - 11 and 6pm.
Jay and I will hook up on pictures tonight.
